  1. Yeah, the Spider Society raises so many questions and it's just really hard to imagine that all these different Spider-Men we know from other media are a part of it. It just doesn't feel right, but if you can get past it, the movie is great.

    Edit: Oh, and it makes no sense that Miles would be able to evade like 100 Spider-Men for as long as he does in the movie, especially since many of them are older and more experienced than he is. Even the best Spider-Man would have been tied up in a second when faced with so many, but I guess it's "conservation of ninjutsu" at work here.

  2. Spider girl at the beginning was just so obnoxiously annoying for me and just in general I feel the movie would be great if she got removed and they stopped this whole Spider-Man introduction and reminding everyone they Spider-Man every fight scene

  3. By the 8 min mark i am starting to understand you don't really get it.
    Watching you for many years, but i have seen you make these takes allot more of not GETTING it.

  4. I really liked all storylines but 2 stand out to me as kind of weak. The fact that Miles doesn't even struggle a second to risk his world was just weird, and the other one is Miles being the anomaly, it was just there but not really, maybe part 2 will make it more worthy but so far it was useless. Miguel can't be that stupid to hold that against him.

  5. Into the spiderverse has a better understanding of animations fundamentals as a whole it was a tighter team with more experienced animators. This movie had a much larger staff and most likely alot of newer talent that diddnt entirely knows the spider verse style. Sometimes the pannel effect can be a little disorienting in what action actually occurs, unlike the first movie, and overall the choreography and realism of the movements seem to be a step below the first. But this movies art style and creative direction are infact on a whole different level than the first.

    The first feels so formulaic and predictable but across the spider verse feels like it’s a breath of fresh air narratively

  7. So, when I watched the movie for the first time in cinemas, the twist in the end shocked me. But after a rewatch, I was a little bit disappointed with the twist considering how the clues made the twist pretty obvious (ex: the mention of Earth 42 on the machine). But I still loved the movie overall. What do you guys think about the twist?

  8. My friends and I thought the same: very pretty but I stopped caring half way through. Bored by characters and storyline. Cringe moments a plenty. We loved the first movie. I can imagine American's enjoying this though and most children.

  9. I'd be shocked if "every spidey just being a cog in the machine for some large spider-force" became the default. The whole movie seems structured around the message "no one can tell you who you are but you", and the writers are better storytellers than only applying that message to a small handful of main characters.

  10. 1:07 I'm (or was) an animator & must say, GWEN had the best bodily expressions and gestures in this film. She really had emphasis, when she spoke to MIGUEL 2099 and just as she was web-slinging through the air. She really showed how "animators are actors".

    1) if your manager suddenly screams at h to stop the new guilty-looking-guy from running, ur gonna try to stop the new guy from running

    2) all these Spider-Man had to go through with their canon events. It’s a right if passage that they all went through.

  12. I feel like it makes sense for the Spider Society to fall in line. Any given spider is inclined to put the needs of others above themselves. For the most part, each spider is hopping into a universe and putting away a wayward villain, Pavitr was seemingly unaware that a pretty clear canon event was occurring. I got the sense that the concept was a fairly need-to-know basis, and even among those who knew, they didn't seem to want to stop Miles from escaping and preventing one.

    I think the key point is that the spiders who are aware of canon events are already affected by a great deal of them, and have bigger fish to fry with the anomalies to spend time rewiring this multiversal constant. And should a spider defy Miguel, he can easily lock them in their universe, unaware of canon events or burdened with the threat of their dimension unravelling.

    You can also argue that the canon events thing is a metacommentary on repetitive tropes in Spider-Man stories, and Miles representing a departure from these traditions, shaking the foundations of the Spider-Man narrative. And that the various Peters et al falling in line represents these established norms.

    One thing's for sure, when Miles undoubtedly wins the day and frees the spiders from their narrative chains, he may rise to be the greatest Spider-Man we've ever seen

  13. In that chase, did the other Spider-people know why they're chasing Miles? Or were they just told to catch him?

    Also, did all of Miguel's backstory and setting up the whole "Citadel" take place in that one year between the end of Into and the start of Across?

  14. 7:40 considering all those Spider-Men and women couldn’t catch miles I think is kinda fitting considering this fact. If they could work together better, I don’t think miles would have been able to shake them off. Plus, it’s not like Peter has ever been against being part of a team, he just tends to figure out he’d be better off working solo

  15. Thank you!! Idk why so many people were so upset about the cliffhanger when that's the one thing I expected out of this movie. Besides it quite literally reminded me of how a lot of comic issues I've read leave you on a cliffhanger, making sure you stay tuned for the next one to come. Some stories can't be told in one go and it's very different from studios trying to build a franchise and setting up sequels, because unlike those movies this definitively feels purposeful.

  16. The first two volumes of Spider-Gwen were the only times I teared up reading comics. Rodriguez's art was a large part of that, and seeing Gwen's universe on the big screen adapting that cover art was amazing. Immediately made the movie for me.

  17. Don’t read Miles comics, they suck. Spiderverse does miles justice but making him his own hero. In the comics, he’s literally just a diverse wannabe that everyone uses as an example of how not to create a rip-off diverse character

  18. If you need to point out it’s flawed in the title, it’s probably not actually a masterpiece. If it was a masterpiece, there would be no qualifier.

  19. The chase scene broke my suspension of disbelief as it just didn't make any sense they couldn't catch Miles when they should all be relatively similar in skill and outnumbered him so heavily.

  20. What I thought was Miguel lead with fear. I think his backstory of tearing his dimension apart was his way of leading all the Spider-Man to blindly follow him. He made them think he was the key of keeping their dimensions from collapsing like his. I think that idea will show itself more in the sequel

  21. Truly enjoyed the film. However, I disagree when it comes to the characters at the center of the external conflict. The Spot switches their motivation for wanting to hurt Miles in the middle of the film and either motivation could’ve worked better if one of the presented options were doubled down on. The entire issue of cannon events and anomalies is not clearly defined enough for any of the characters to be able to say Miles’s father has to die and watching every spider person follow and obviously traumatized man’s theory on how the spider verse works unquestionably to is more than a tough pill to swallow.

    Technical masterpiece, great characters and character moments, contrived conflict, and finally poor cliffhanger execution. Just my personal opinion, and I know I’m in the minority. Happy some many people loved the film though.

  22. everyone I’ve heard talk about this movie says it’s a masterpiece, the best movie of the year, etc… but I just don’t get it.

    yes, it was a good movie, and very good as far as animation and superhero movies go… but much of the plot, visuals, pacing, almost everything just felt very messy to me. once he goes through the first portal to Mumbai World, my eyes and brain just sorta glazed over. Spider-Punk is the perfect example of this… I couldn’t understand the majority of what he said, and I couldn’t hardly make out his image on the screen. and why do the background have to be so blurry? I wish they’d reign in the art style for the more simple and quiet moments, and save the bold stuff for the big moments.

    the main cast was good though, the score was great, and the basic plot outline was well done… so yea, B+ for me, maybe A-… but certainly no masterpiece.

    also, it bugs me when Spider-men don’t have alliterative names 🤷🏻‍♂️

  23. This is a movie I have criticisms of but I'm not going to say them in public until a few months when the hype dies down and fans calm down a bit.

  24. I think that the emotional climax of this movie surpassed even the emotional climax of the first movie's What's Up Danger/Leap of Faith scene. Because in the second movie, we see Miles outsmart and beat hundreds of spiderpeeps in a chase scene. At that moment, Miles realizes this and sees the limitations of the other spiderpeeps and decides that he'll do things his own way instead of giving into the archetypical trauma that the other spiderpeeps went through. Spiderman doesn't need trauma to be Spiderman (sorry, Uncle Ben). Miles' parents' love and values shaped him enough that he could become someone great.
